Liverpool 3 Clinch Division 5 Title

Liverpool 3 Clinch Division 5 Title

Liverpool Chess club had 2 very good wins at home tonight and now have only one “home” game left this season when they entertain Fazakerley in a crucial 440 game next Thursday night to try winning the 440 title
All teams other teams now have one away game left to close the season for this year!
Liverpool 1 won 7-0 against Wallasey B who beat us 4-3 in the same leg earlier in the season
Liverpool 3 won 3-2 against Aigburth 5 to make mathematically certain of the Division 5 title
Liverpool 1 players/winners in board order:
Joe Siddall (always great when Joe can play)
Gaile Guanqun (first game on board 2 for Liverpool 1)
Sameer Mana (first appearance on board 3 this season)
Tony Morley ( moving down the pecking order after a tough time on board 1 for most of the season)
Dave Leeming (also moved down boards after tough time on bd 2 this season)
Frank Ryan (Keeping up his brilliant score for the season)
Mike Clarke (what a player for bottom board)
Probably the strongest team we have put out this season and see the result!
Too late to catch Waterloo but a sign of what we can do on our day
Liverpool 3 (Now winners of Division 5) won 3-2 against a battling Aigburth side
Sam Scott struggled after going a piece down but nearly found a way back after getting 2 passed pawns on the 7th rank but it wasn’t to be
Peter Leonard also looked in a bit of trouble but he got a perpetual check to claim a draw and keep up his excellent form
Plamen then got a good win trying out his new Dutch opening for the first time
Sam Gibbons also won comfortably in the end to make the match 2.5 – 1.5 with Peter left needing only a draw to win the match which although a pawn up he offered his opponent who accepted before realising they had therefore lost the match I think
Anyway another great win for Liverpool 3 who sit very proudly at the top of Division 5
Great performance all once again!
In the Table/swiss, Seb made a surprising appearance but lost to Jim who played a Danish opening which had Seb in trouble after a few moves
Debbie who joined the club last week was back again tonight and another brand new player Steve turned up who can very clearly play the game well, so they played a few games on a night that had every table in the club taken up with Chess games which was great to see
The Juniors also turned up in good numbers again and played some very good quality chess and they have also started working properly on their opening reportoirs which we will now be helping them develop over the spring and summer in preparation for next season playing in division 5 of the MCA league
On the MCA website the club now shows 40 players in the Liverpool squad which 3 years ago showed 10 players registered, the good times seem to be well and truly back for the club
