Liverpool 1 are Merseyside Chess Champions once again!

Liverpool 1 got back to where they belong this season in the Merseyside League. Top of Division 1 for the first time since 1986 which was 34 years ago and looking unstoppable after just beating their closest rivals Atticus 2 by score of 5-2 and only 3 games to go!

Covid then struck and the Merseyside chess league in their wisdom decided not to award Liverpool the title officially and instead call the season void even though Liverpool were clearly in a dominating position and 80% of the season had been played!

Well as far as Liverpool are concerned we are Division champions once again and will be awarding the Liverpool 1 squad with trophies to this effect!

Congratulations Liverpool 1! An outstanding season and thank you all for your commitment and determination to turn out every week all through the season!
